Students are each assigned to a small group that consists of children from every grade level, Kindergarten through eighth grade. This group becomes their "family". Each family is then assigned to one teacher that remains constant throughout the students' years at St. Margaret of York. This faith-filled time together incorporates character education and occasional service projects.
The goal of the family program is to foster community and build stronger relationships among students and staff. The family community provides leadership opportunities for our older students, especially those in eighth grade who become the family leaders in their last year at SMOY.

We have a thriving musical theater program at St. Margaret of York. The theater program lets students in grades 5-8 shine on and off the stage.
Live productions such as The Lion King, Willy Wonka, Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins are brought to life each spring. Children experience the joy and satisfaction of performing for the student body, friends and family.
In addition, we have a talent show each year where all students are invited to share their unique gifts and talents with classmates and families.

The primary task of Hope Squad is to create a sense of belonging and connection to all students and to help prevent youth suicide. St. Margaret of York School launched its first-ever Hope Squad in January 2019. Consisting of several students from grades 7 and 8, they work alongside trained staff members to learn practical skills in suicide prevention. Squad members were trained to recognize signs of depression, and to properly Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR). Much like CPR, the purpose of QPR is to be a first responder to someone in distress and refer them to adults who can help.
In addition to providing hope and support to their peers, the Hope Squad reaches out in many different ways to spread joy throughout our school. These include placing encouraging signs around the campus, delivering treats to students, visiting with students at lunch and recess, and speaking to younger classes about kindness and inclusion.
Each school year we participate in a wide variety of service projects to benefit both the local and global community. Some of these initiatives include donations for a local pregnancy center, canned food drives, lenten rice bowls, school supply donations to a local CISE school, coat drives for St. Vincent de Paul, and donating playground equipment to a school in Africa.
